“Dear fans and friends, Merle and I have a friend” “…a very special friend. Her name is Jessica Easley. She is 10 years old. Jessica has terminal bone cancer. She recently had her leg amputated. Her doctors have sent her home because they say there is no more that they can do . They have given her 2 to 3 weeks to live. Dear Fans, Friends, Family, and Acquaintances Merle has undergone the removal of a cancerous growth in his right lung. Merle is recuperating from the surgery and doing better and better each day. I would like to personally thank all of you who took the time to send your love, support, care, concern, and most of all, all of your prayers! Chester Smith a dear and life long friend of Merle’s, past away on August 8, 2008. He was known for his hit song “Wait a little longer please Jesus” and “Holiday For Tears”. “Wait a little longer ” became an international hit in the pop field. He went on to start his own radio station “Kloc” in Ceres, California. Merle’s awareness of Chester goes back to 1947, in the years he spent with KTRB Modesto as a disc jockey who called himself “Chester String Bean Smith”.
