I have been watching the video, Merle Haggards Greatest Hits, over and over. Now I get it, after all these years: all those other top country artists were just trying to be like Merle… and couldn’t touch him. Merle, in your profound ability to convey emotion, your beautiful voice, the fire and depth, disilluson and humility, of your honesty, you access a truth most people aren’t capable of… possibly because they aren’t able to carry the emotional impact. You do, with grace and dignity, and yet none of this compromises your masculinity or presence. Combine your instrumental ability with your unique personality and looks, and, to quote Samuel L Jackson… you are too cool for school..!! I secretly suspect you must be a total brain to pull all this off, or extra loved by god. I’ve loved your songs since I was a kid, that’s the Way Love Goes has always been on the top of my list. My Favorite Memory… and Kern River is such a beautiful metaphor, I instantly cried. Footlights, Hungry Eyes, Rambling Fever… too many to list. Love you bunches.

    HI Merle,
We haven’t seen you in these parts for a while. Saw you a Lowell Memorial Auditorium many moons ago
When I need a dose of Haggard, I go to Boston where an Irish band called Sundays Well will play “Fighting Side of Me”. The singer, Sean, is from Ireland but is a patriotic American.
Thank you for doing what you do, as only you can do it.

I have been a Merle fan since I was 6. I rember my dad dancing with my mom when she would put on his lp.I rember my dad telling me that he had met merle years ago in corcorn ca . He grew up there, ” and my mom grew up in wasco ca”. I hope some day to meet him myself because my dad said he was one hell raising S.O.B!!!!!!!! (With all do respect) He also told me he was a great man. I lost my dad 20 years ago this July 3rd, so I no longer hear his stories but every time I play meryl haggard’s music I am taken back in time, but with tears

Merle was great on the Marty Stuart show season finale on RFD TV. I love the way he does Jimmy Rogers tunes, What kind of acoustic guitar is that he’s playing nowadays?

  • Tony Smith | Jul 3, 2013 at 7:54 am

Can anyone give me a list of all the lead guitar players that have worked for Merle?
I’m 70 years old and still work in a band. We do more Haggard songs than any other artist. He’s the best, and always will be.

    Dear Merle Haggard,

Thank you for the beautiful music. You are an amazing songwriter and I have been listening to your music since I was a little girl. My mother was born and raised in Tennessee, so I grew up listening to country music. Her favorite singers were Waylon, Elvis, and you. I was fortunate to see you perform twice; once at the House of Blues in Los Angeles, and most recently at the Grove of Anaheim. Your music means the world to me and I just wanted to say thank you.

    Hi,

Just wanted to say thank you very much for a great evening in Cedar Rapids last night. I wasn’t at your concert, but I sent my parents as a surprise for their 45th wedding anniversary coming up in August. They had a wonderful time. They were so pleased to have the opportunity to be there and thoroughly enjoyed every moment of the concert. It was fun to see them ‘giddy’. I am very thankful that you came to the Paramount. Thank you again for making it so memorable for all of us!

  • Everett | Jun 23, 2013 at 9:58 pm

I went to see you tonite, i have forever been a fan.My boys and daughter inlaws pais for my ticket. That is a whole of money for a ticket, and i really hate to say, but i was dissapointed.I went in with the expectations that it wouldn,t be like it was yrs ago when i saw you last. But i guess what really bothers me was the songs not being sung the way they were recorded.I dont mean to insult you, i just think most people feel that way.Wayne The other thing is after your son sang it must have been at least 30 minutes before you came out to sing.Feel like i didnt get. Money worth.Wish you the best but probably would never do this again.Everett

We love you here in Kentucky, Merle you were my mothers favorite singer. She’s gone now ,but she left us with all your hits. My mom was a country fan and no one could ever get her to listen to anything else. Take care of yourself cause we still need you, our upcoming country stars could use some training. :-)

You are one of the best true singer/songwriters in country music history. We are bringing our dad to your Concert at Taft Theatre in Cincinnati, Ohio on June 26th. He has been a fan of yours for all the years I’ve known him. We sing your songs around the table and out in front of the garage every time we get together. Dad is your age and has stage four cancer and when I saw you was having a concert this close to us, I bought tickets for the show…. We are looking forward to it..could you dedicate a tune to him at the concert like one of his favorites Mama Tried….hope your up for autographs after the show…. Our Dad Ron Cleeves would love to meet you…as would we..lol

Hi, I have loved watching & listening to Merle for so many years I’ve lost count :-) I know he does perform occasionally in Canada, but wonder if he will ever come to the province of Ontario? If so, & I hear, I’d certainly be in the audience. I love his song “Nobody’s Darlin But Mine”…..I still remember the episode of The Walton’s when he performed it….still my favourite after all these years!!

  • Bill | Jun 18, 2013 at 5:20 pm

Hi Merle, congratulations on your degree, Dr. Haggard. Just goes to show “you are the man”. Thanks for everything for all these years.

  • Justin | Jun 18, 2013 at 10:34 am

Growing up on a farm in central Missouri, my dad would entertain my brother and I with “Haggard and Jones” time. In the tractor, in the truck, on the pond bank fishing etc. Great memories! I’m going to have the opportunity to see you live for the first time June 21, 2013. 40 years after my first exposure to the “Hag” at Gruene Hall. Thanks for helping to develop “The Way I Am” and for keeping true country music alive and well.

  • Mike | Jun 15, 2013 at 8:29 pm

    Merle,

I have seen you almost every time that you have been to Biloxi, Miss. and you and the “Ole Possom” have always been my favorites and always will be. But there has been a disservice to one of my favorites; I hope you don’t disagree with me on this, but Vern Gosdin deserves to be inducted in to that austere group of legends In the CMA Hall Of Fame. Even George Jones acknowledged that he should be included in several recorded interviews before his death. I am just wondering if you support this position and if you will remember his contributions to “Country Music”. I know that we aren’t supposed to make request, but and there is not intent to get a printed response, just to plant the seed! I still privately get tears in my eyes when I hear his recording of “Is It Raining At Your House” and “Chiseled In Stone”. I heard an old live interview with “The Satellite Cowboy” the other night with Vern and he actually lived those sad songs and had a lot of demons in his life and marriages, and all that emotion is actually captured in his songs thanks to Max Barnes, who he gave lyrical credit to in the interview. When Bill asked him if all the heart ache and pain were worth it, he said, Well, I got 10 top ten hits and 2 number 1′s out of my last divorce”, and that just brought it all home to me!!! I have 3 Fox Fire rotations on my personal computer and they are George Jones, Merle Haggard and Vern Gosdin and they never stop; need I say more?

Love You and Your Music and You Hang In There!
