Hi Merle, we sure miss you with the Malpass Brothers but you rock–I am 76 and no where near as agile as you are. Keep up the great concerts.

I can’t believe I will finally be seeing the Hag, this coming Friday, May 10th in Kahwake, Québec; just about an hour away ! Have been listening to Merle for over 50 years ; such a great singer ! I just love his TEACH ME TO FORGET, YOU’LL ALWAYS BE SOMETHING SPECIAL TO ME, WAKE UP, SO TIRED OF IT ALL, to name a few….I wonder if he’s singing any of those on this Tour ? I know we will be hearing all his many many big Hits and it will be so wonderful. See ya, Friday Merle !

We took my father who recently retired from singing and playing in a band for 40 years to Merle’s concert in Kitchener, Ontario last night. What a fantastic show he put on. My Dad had tears in his eyes from the front row seats and he loved the show, Mearle has some excellent musicians in his troop! Kern River is my favourite song and I was so glad it made the set list. It was pretty neat to see the demographics of folks at the concert, from 16-90 I’d say and smiles on everyone’s face as they left the auditorium. Thanks for getting off the beaten path from Toronto and hitting our area! All the best and keep doing what your doing you sound the same!

Great show in Kitchener, Mr. Haggard. Had a great time. Thanks for having Mary Beth open for you. I’m from her area of New Brunswick. Loved your son as well. My first time seeing you and hopefully not the last. Thanks for the memories. Love ya!

I just read the obituary for George Jones that Merle wrote for Milestones in Time Magazine, May 13, 2013 issue. It was respectful, humorous and informative. I’m going to Nashville Monday to see the Bakersfield Sound exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. I’m taking the magazine with me! I lived in Bakersfield in the 50′s. I’ve seen Merle 4 times in concert plus at the birthday party for Billy Mize at The Crystal Palace. Merle is a fantastic songwriter and entertainer! Thanks for the great music. To Merle Haggard,

My dad introduced me to your music a number of years ago and ever since I have been listening to your music and enjoying every minute of it. I have over 8 CD’s of your songs, excluding the one I bought just 10 minutes ago on this website, so make it 9 CD’s. I am only 19 years old, but I have been a fan of your music since I was around 9 or 10 years old. I’d like to say that your music means as much to my generation as it did to the generations before me. I enjoy every minute of the songs you wrote and sang and I hope your music will always be remembered for years. I can not simply just pick a favorite song because I like too many of them to put one song above the rest, but if I could choose one song that I listen to the most it would be “Branded Man”. Your a living legend and I hope someday my kids will enjoy listening to your music too.

    Thanks,
    George

I saw Merle at the Turning Stone resort showroom here in Central NY. In my younger days I was a wild thing, I think my daddy let me hear to many Merle and George Jones drinking songs. I ended up in the slammer for 5 1/2 years and when I got out it was hard to jump through all the hoops Parole put out for me. I was listening to all of Merle’s music and i decided I would cope with Parole, a fugitive is not the life for me. I learned alot about life through reading the Man in Black by Johnny Cash while incarcerated, and Merle’s music opened my eyes. I cried the day George Jones died and I know I have to go see Merle again, even if have to take my camper far away to see him. I was walking out of the casino the day after the Merle concert and I noticed a man walking down the hall by himself and it was the Hag. Can you imagine?!? I shook his hand and thanked him for his music. His music saved me from myself, even though my days of riding Harleys and partying were fun at the time, I am too old for all that shit and partied out. I have great respect for Merle and George, I also saw George at the casino, and age never changed their voice and they did not cave in to pressure to be someone other than themselves, it rare in todays music business.

    • Natalie Carter | Jul 12, 2013 at 4:19 am

Sorry for the music industry for the loss of George Jones, but Merle you still have Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson to duo’s with for the future of music history. :)

I CAME TO SEE YOU ON MAY 25, 2003; AT THE COUNTRY TONIGHT THEATER IN PIGEON FORGE, TN. I CAME BACKSTAGE, AND I GOT TO MEET NORM WHO HANDED ME HIS PICK HE HAD PLAYED WITH THAT NIGHT. I NOTICED, THAT I WAS THE ONLY LADY COMING UP TO THE EDGE OF THE STAGE TAKING SO MANY PHOTOS OF YOU. THANK YOU FOR GIVING ME YOUR BEST! MERLE, I AM A BMI MEMBER SONGWRITER, AND I JUST RELEASED A SONG TO T. THE OTHER DAY. HE HAD WRITTEN ME AND GIVEN HIS EMAIL SO I COULD SEND TO HIM. The world may have lost one of the greatest country singers of all time this week.
Sir, George Jones, was third in line following Conway Twitty , but the world know this for sure the first is Sir , Merle Hagard. I know Merle does not wan’t to admit it , but he is smooth like silk on stage. He is not only the greatest country singer , but he plays different instruments making him more talented as well. The greatest female singer of all time was certainly no one other than Mrs. Tammy Wynett .

  • The Patricks | Apr 29, 2013 at 6:30 am

    Mr. Haggard,
I have been a fan of yours since I can remember. Your music was one of the first things my husband and I found that we had in common. During my wild younger days you were there with me mostly singing “Swingin’ doors”. Now that I am a parent I still love to listen to your music, though my wild days are long gone. My husband and I are bringing up our son to appreciate real country music and he is a fan of the greats. Thanks for all of your music over the years and for being there for some of the best times in my life. My sympathy on the loss of your friend George Jones. He will be missed……

  • Angie L | Apr 29, 2013 at 5:56 am

Merle, I got tickets to the final concert that George was to have (November 22, 2013 in Nashville, Bridgestone arena) there were TONS of fantastic artists that were scheduled to attend. I am sure that you were one of the legends that were going to take the stage with George. Why not let that particular show go on as a tribute to George ?!?!?! You are right there with him as “that group” of the originals that can NEVER be replaced ~ Example (whos gonna fill YA’LLS shoes) Lets do this thing for George. I don’t want my money back for the tickets I want to pay tribute to him !!!

    Hi Merle,
I just wanted to send my condolences at the passing of your friend, George Jones. Our prayers are with his family and friends. I had the pleasure of seeing him locally at the Big E, near my home in Springfield, MA some years back and to hear that voice, coming over live or on the radio – wow, nothing like it. Please keep the musical flame alive. I’ve been hoping to get out to CA to see my Aunt, Dolly Coseo, and hope to one day have the pleasure of meeting you there. Till then I send you wishes for peace of mind and Love in kind from Springfield, MA

    Merle,
I grew up listening to you with my Dad and Mom back when they were young and rowdy. Dad was a machinist by trade and he used to work the oil fields in Bakersfield and Long Beach. Friday and Saturday nights were spent with my brother usually in some smokey bar room with our own table over by the juke box. They kept us out of sight so nobody would call the law. We would play cards and drink as many Cokes as we wanted and listen to you on the jukebox. We weren’t older than 8 and 9 years old back then. We loved it and still have great memories of good people and what seemed like were better days. I’m now 48 years old and just took my wife, Mom and Dad to see you in Anaheim on April 11. Thank you for nothing but great memories and for being a true American in a time when we don’t have too many heroes to look up too. You and your family put on a great show and I have not seen my parents happier in years. You are a true legend and sincerely hope you realize the impact you have had with your music on peoples lives. Thanks for staying true to your music and not being a part of this crap Nashville is churning out labeled as country music. You know Nashville has changed when Dwight Yoakam is now considered “Classic Country”. I plan on seeing you in December at one of the Nevada shows. God bless you and your family and may George Jones R.I.P.

  • Corey Haggard | Apr 27, 2013 at 9:34 pm

I was excited to see you were coming to Lubbock for a concert in June. As you can see from my last name, I have a vested interest in you as family. Please let me know of anything we can do to make your visit in our hometown more enjoyable. There is a whole clan of Haggards down here. Good luck and good health cousin!

  • Elsie Johnson | Apr 27, 2013 at 6:06 pm

The death of George Jones (who was my x-husban’s favorite) brought me to youtube to listen to you. You were my favorite in my former years since I became a Christian I mostly listen to Christian music. Like the song When a man loves a woman, you should us how. I read the book that was written about you many years ago. I had a son in prison and the book helped me to see people can change. Love you Merle, you’re my country hero.

  • Jon "Doc" Meeks | Apr 27, 2013 at 11:24 am

Dear Merle..I just want to thank you for sharing your songs and talent with us for all these years. I have had several bands and your music had a first set place all the time.
I am 70 years young and still play on stage and with my friends. This is silly i suppose but when we nail a Merle tune, I feel a little bit of you is with us. Take care of your self Ole Hoss.

  • Farron Adams | Apr 27, 2013 at 10:59 am

    Dear Merle,
The passing of the legendary George Jones is devastating to us fans. As great a loss as we feel, I’m sure that pales in comparison to the heartache felt by those that knew him on a personal level such as yourself. My deepest condolences to you all. I have tickets to your show in Barrie Ontario next week and would fully understand if it’s cancelled. If the show goes on, I’ll be the first one standing for your ovation.
    God bless
    Farron

  • Janelle | Apr 27, 2013 at 10:28 am

Mr. Merle (Because I respect you and your music) I have always loved your music since I first went to a concert to see and hear you in Tampa Fl at the Curtis Hixon Hall. You wore white denims and a red denim jacket. I have a picture of you from then and one of your programs which you autographed for me. When I met my future husband on 11/21/87, I had just seen Larry and asked him to dance with me. Of course, our theme song was “Natural HIgh” which was playing at the time. We just celebrated our 25th on 2/14/2013 and still had to dance to our song “NATURAL HIGH” May God always bless you sir.

  • george | Apr 27, 2013 at 9:48 am

Hi Merle – I see you doing some upcoming dates here in Eastern Canada. Any possibilty you could add a couple of (sure-to-sell-out) shows over here in Newfoundland at the end of those dates? We’d love to welcome you! FYI, one song I’m ALWAYS humming in my head is your “Montego Bay” :)

    • Lisa | Apr 27, 2013 at 6:13 pm

I second that…..would Love to see you in Newfoundland, would love to take my mom to a concert here! Canada does not end in the Atlantic Provinces!

  • Karen Richey | Apr 27, 2013 at 7:25 am

So sorry we lost a great singer and friend. My thoughts are with you as I’ve been a fan of you both for many years. Whos gonna fill their shoes? I can’t think of anyone who could. You both have some pretty big shoes. My family are all “Okies” who left there during the “dust bowl” times and also landed in Ca. San Bernadino, Bakersfield, and finally Fullerton. I saw you at the OC Fairgrounds a couple of times several yrs ago and sent you a book via your son. I now live in SW Virginia and hopefully will be able to go to NC when you come that way in September. Again, my thoughts and prayers to you. You are so loved <3

  • Mike Lucotch | Apr 26, 2013 at 9:16 pm

    Dear Hag,

I have loved your work for years. My favorite album is your tribute to Bob Wills – The Best Dammed Fiddle Player In The World! We named our 20 year-old daughter Corinna. I’m listening to Bob Wills as I’m typing this. That’s sayin’ a lot, since Silver Wings from your Oakie From Muskogee live album is one of my favorite songs of all time.

Thank you for your life’s work! You are true to your roots and beliefs, yet innovative. That’s something I’ve aspired to be too.

May God bless you in all you do.

    With much admiration and respect,

    Mike Lucotch

    Hi Merle,
Just discovered this comment section and had to share a quick story. Last year my Girlfriend Laura surprised me with Tickets for your show in Williamsport PA. We’re from Toronto area and made a little Road trip holiday out of it. On the day of your show, when rolling into town from Cleveland (Rock Hall of Fame) we blew the motor in her car on the interstate while exploring Williamsport! We had it towed to a mechanic who did everything he could but explained we were unfortunately out of luck. Very upsetting but we called home and explained what had happened to Lauras dad who is a mechanic and he asked details of where we were staying and where the car was but told us to just go and enjoy the show. It was unbelievable and despite worrying how we were going to get home we both really really enjoyed it. I can’t explain how well we were treated by the Tow Truck Driver, the mechanic, and the Hotel where we stayed. Lauras father acutally hopped in his truck and car trailer that day and made the 6 hour trip south to pick up the car and us! So needless to say our Merle Haggard trip that ended up with us floating our car home from Williamsport PA to Toronto ONT will never be forgotten!! Lauras dad had the motor swapped out and she was back on the road in 4 days…

We have our tickets to see you in 2 weeks on May 4th in Kitchener ONT and We’re really looking forward to seeing you once again! We’ll be right there in the 3rd row centre. Hopefully without the distraction of being stranded with no vehicle, in a different country, 6 hours from home! This is just down the highway for us so we’ll take the bus if we have to! haha Once again, we can not wait to see you and your world class band once again! And we often look back at that trip and concert and smile because we have one great memory all thanks to your Concert, so Thank you Sir!

    Aaron & Laura

P.S I can not explain how many times I have watched the 1985 Austin City Limits show and try and learn even half of the licks you and the band lay out on the guitars in that show… That is without a doubt one of the best, if not the best concert footage I have ever seen. It just blows me away how good that show was. I wish I was old enough to have been around to see you in those years
