Mr. Haggard – your music has so richly touched not only my enjoyment of music and life, but my family’s as well. I tuned into your music in 1991 as a ripe 21 yr. old and demanded all of my loved ones to listen and revel. I have seen your shows countless times in Texas (though I lost a debate of whom was the biggest HAG fan to a woman 20 yrs. my senior at a concert at Stubbs in Austin) and plan to some more. It has truly been a pleasure for me. I could go on and on, but will try to keep it brief – your music and great voice has allowed me to non-country listeners into your fans. Many thanks for the memories; be well.

I listened to Merle Haggard sing everyday. I went all the way to Atlantic City to see Merle in April 2012, and I had tickets way up high, and I couldn’t see good enough, because of my Glaucoma. But I love your music, and that’s why I went there. Fani

My dad turned me on to Merle in the late 60′s when I was a kid I saw Merle 5 times since then and enjoyed every minute of his shows he is one of the few artist that sing their songs and sound just like the recording which is hard to do live.I use Merles music to reflect back on my child hood or just escape from a hectic day his music always leaves feeling alot better.
Thanks for the memories Merle !

First heard Merle sing while I was at work at Porterville State Hospital, around mid 60′s. I was amazed at his voice and knew he would make it bigtime. I never missed a Merle song and like every song he ever wrote. I used to tell my kids that Merle and I went to “different schools together” when they were young. I have the same birthdate as Merle (4-6-37) but I was born in Arkansas. Nevertheless, I always think of Merle on our birthdates. Merle is one of the best. Keep it up Merle, love you man!

    Hello,

Although I grew up listening to your music and have been a fan all my life, I never heard you sing Woody Guthrie’s song, Jesus Christ, until tonight at the end of Michael Moore’s movie. I’m writing to request you put it on iTunes. It would sure be appreciated. Thank you.

Merle Haggard in Sydney , NS ,May 16 ,2013……..I’m ecstatic . IF ever in my life, there was a concert that I absolutely would/could not miss this is it . I’ve waited for decades for this event. Tickets are already purchased . My wife and I can hardly wait .
Thanks Merle for swinging by here on your farewell tour of the Maritime Provinces .
If I would make a request it would be the song that Merle , Jim Beam , and IW Harper wrote coming out of Texas headed for Muskogee ,years back : ” Billy Overcame His Size ” .

My father used to bring his guitar beside my crib and sing me to sleep with Merle Haggard songs. I loved all the songs, but I think my favorites were ‘Silver Wings’ and ‘Tulare Dust”. When I started school, my teachers wondered at my advanced vocabulary and with my parents decided it was Merle’s influence. My dad took me to see Merle at the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto ’71 or ’72, and we are going to see him again in Halifax, Nova Scotia next May. Two life-long fans, father and son, are very excited to you again, Merle!

My sister Pat passed away yesterday after being ill for many years. She was a life long Merle fan. She had a life size cut out in him in her living room. She was the most generous, giving person, and when she went to heaven yesterday, her family and I played Merle for her over and over, all day. So thank, Mr. Haggard, for a life time of music that made my sister happy.

    Hi Merle:

I am so excited that you are finally coming to Nova Scotia, Canada. I have been a fan of yours since I was young girl. Sing Me Back Home is my all time favorite as it reminds me so much of my brother. Farmer’s daughter is another favorite of mine. I only wish my dear mother was alive to see your concert as she too loved your music.

See you in Halifax, May 15, 2013

Hello Merle, I have been a fan since I can’t remember that far back. I am 52, and have loved country western since a child. My whole family listened to it. I saw you only one time in concert In the early eighties in Newhall, CA. at the Saugus Speedway. Great performance! and it was my sisters birthday and that was my present to her. We were both singing along. What brought you back to mind for me today, was it is the day after the election, and your song “Is the good times really over for good” popped into my head. Saw it on you tube, and it brought back memories. Then I punched up “Fightin side of me”.
Thanks Mr. Merle Haggard, stay healthy and strong Sir, and God Bless!

So glad to see you will be at the Fox Th. in Riverside. I can’t wait. My family are longtime fans of yours. My mom has been waiting patiently to hear your music live again. She just turned 82 and her favorite song is Silver Wings. Before my dad passed away he played his harmonica in the car with the doors open while playing your music in the Shopping Centers while my mother shopped. People gathered all around the car – listened to your music and listened to my dad play the harmonic. We all LOVE YOU! Thank you for the memories and thank you for the music!

A special thank you for “Roots” Vol 1. I was raised 20 miles south of Corsicana (Lefty territory) and 48 miles east of Waco(Hank Thompson stomping ground)- Texas, of course! I want you to know how much GOOD that album is doing for an 87 year-old Alzheimer’s patient. I have taken care of her for 3 1/2 years. Of late, all she really wants to do is eat and sleep. I can put “Roots” (my CD, of course) on the CD player and she is getting up and DANCING , holding her small little dog! Her favorite is “If You Got the Money.” Gets her up and awake and ready to enjoy her day. Your music is such a blessing to so many and in ways you may never have guessed.

    Hi Merle,
Would it be a crazy thought to come over to the UK and do a few shows. You have a following here, my Mum is a huge fan and I hear your music morning, noon and night when I visit her. She posts here on your site too. Since we lost my Dad to cancer you have now taken the role of the man in our house in the south-east of England. He also loved Country music. I recently came to Nashville and met up with Duane Eddy, Scotty Moore and Steve Cropper, taking in some great music downtown while I was there on a charity trip. Well…..Merle, I will even help organise venues here if you like, just get in touch. Take care.

Merle, I have viewed the video of you and Marty Robbins, where you impersonate Marty, a hundred times. The look on his and your faces when you finishing singing and playing is very, very amusing! I’ve written a few country songs and would like to send the words and music to one special patriotic, country song entitled “Back Home in America.” I’d love to hear you sing it. God richly blessed you and I pray that he grants you many, many more years to share your gift with those of us who admire you so very much!

I first heard Merle Haggard sing when I was a youngster. My mom loved his music. As a family, we would hear our mother play and sing merle’s songs. Our mom and dad had many musical friends who would come over on the weekend and play the guitars and sing to mama tried, sing me back home, fightin side of me, and by now you get the picture!!! My mom passed in 2005 but one of her dreams was to hear merle sing live. She never got to experience him in concert!! I recently found out that Merle is coming to my hometown of Sydney, N.S. on May 16th/2012. Although I no longer live in Cape Breton (four hours away from where I live now), my family have made a pledge in memory of our loving mom, that we will all go. Since my mom’s passing, I listen to merle sing me back to those beautiful memories!! Merle, if you read these posts, you have no idea the sense of comfort your music has provided to not only me but my whole family!! I can’t wait to see you live and I want you to know that your music has been a part of my upbringing and our family’s musical legacy!!!!!

I think you must be referring to the live show recorded in February 1970 at Convention Hall, Philadelphia which was released in July 1970 on the LP “The Fightin’ Side Of Me” (Capitol ST-451). Merle introduced this part of the show something like this, “…would ya’ll like to see some some impersonations for a second or two? OK alright I’ll tell you what, we would but we don’t know any – nah really we’re gonna try to do a couple or three for you. We hope that you recognize ‘em the first one goes like this right here. This is one of my very favorite singers and if I don’t sound like him I’m gonna be mad at me.” and then he did impersonations of Marty Robbins, Hank Snow, Johnny Cash, and Buck Owens. “The Fighin’ Side Of Me” was the last track on the LP.

We have the same first name, but that’s where the similarity ends. I’m 77 and have been playing your songs for over half a century. I’m glad we are both still alive and between you and George Jones, those are the only CDs and DVDS I listen to and watch. If you want to hear somebody else, don’t come to my house! Thanks for your music, it means a lot to me.

Hag It was almost the perfect country show at Knuckleheads Saloon, you and your band were real on. Nice to see that it was a family affair. I loved your whistle blowing back to the train ( it was better then the feed backs version). The perfect show would of been if you invited Dallas back out and did Must of been drunk and Yesterday’s wine. In any case glad to see you back being at your best rocking country music.

Merle of all the country singer I have seen and heard, you are the best, I fell in love with your voice way in the early 1970′s and still love your voice as much today as ever. I saw you in Toronto , you were singing some of Jimmy Rogers songs, all was great, I love all your songs , but ( you are my favourite memory of all ) is one of your best. Can’t wait to see you in Moncton . keep well
