    Dear Merle;

    I’m finally having a dream of mine come true as of tomorrow, May 29th! I am getting to see the man who had a big help in saving my life back in 1991-92. I was a drug user who had lost temporary custody of her children; because of my addiction. A year before; I had met a man through my Aunt Nellie named Burl Sutton. Merle, I have to tell ya; next to me…HE IS YOUR GREATEST FAN! He plays guitar & sings just like you!! He was the one who took me in during the bad times I had in the early 90′s, and together, we would listen to you for hours…..everyday! I “knew” who you were as a kid growing up, but the time I was with Burl; I REALLY GOT TO KNOW WHO YOU WERE!! Your music, the words you expressed in all your songs, along with Burl’s help & love; I kicked my drug habit COLD TURKEY!! I fell in love with you both during this time in my life; and my love for you & Burl has NEVER STOPPED!! I got custody of my children 9 months later, and all 4 of them are doing GREAT! My son & his wife are expecting their 1st child at the end of June, and I’m VERY EXCITED to become a Grandmother for the first time!! I will be at your concert in Butte, Mt. I’ll be in the second row sitting on one of the end seats. I’ll have on a light green shirt & pants. I’m a BIG, BEAUTIFUL WOMAN who would LOVE it if you could smile at me, or wink, or even dedicate a song to me! I NEVER would have imagined ever seeing you in person! EVER! But am so very thankful that my dream is finally coming true! I thank GOD, YOU & BURL for saving my life at the lowest it’s ever been. Your music, your words, and just being the person that you are changed my life for the BEST; AND FOR THAT I THANK YOU SIR!! I hope this message reaches you in time for the concert tomorrow in Butte; but if not, I still will totally understand! I’ll love you till God calls me home……Merle, you are a Godsend to me and I would LOVE to hug your neck. Please look for me. I’ll be the one with the twinkle in her eye, and the BIG smile on my face listening as you sing to me! LOL. God Bless you Mr. Haggard, and THANK YOU for helping me save my life!! With heartfelt sincerity; Ms. Becky Cumins your #1 fan! ?

    Hi. I saw you on Memorial Day on TV. I think I know what your last song (or songs) needs to be. You need to glorify Jesus before you die. God is being gracious to you while he waits for you to come to Him through the cross of Jesus Christ. It was his blood shed at calvary that paid for the sins of all who believe. Jesus is our sure way to receive forgiveness for what we have done, and have an entrance into heaven when we die. “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”
    A friend, Joan

    Hey Merle we’ve (my Dad and I) have been listening to your music as long as i can remember. We used to listen to the song “If we make it thru December” in the times my folks were out of work and it meant alot back then, being a kid, knowing that we were not alone. Your music was with us in the car, the house, the relatives house and every family get together. Thanks for telling it like it is your the best …..My dad and I are going to try and make one of your shows this year —

    Merle, I’m a somewhat misplaced, displaced Central Valley boy from Tulare who recently followed his wife to Montana. I’m coming to see you at the show in Butte in a couple of days. I’m not making any specific requests, just hoping you bring some of that good ‘ole Tulare dust with ya (there must be some Central Valley soil encrusted somewhere on the soles of those boots). That stuff is special, ya know?!

    Anyhow…my grandma, who’s only a few years older than you, grew up a bit ashamed of her Okie heritage as a migratory dust bowl transplant, but you’re songs helped me to appreciate and be proud of that heritage by reminding me of the endurance and fortitude that resulted from that hardscrabble experience. More importantly, you remind all of us that goodness and love give meaning to life and those attributes can persist in and overcome the toughest of circumstances. And in the long run those attributes are what make us truly rich and honorable. For that I commend and thank you.

    BTW…my last concert was Fresno Fair, a couple years ago… we we’re in friendly territory then. This time, in Butte, I’m counting on you to remind these Montanans that there are still a few good things that come out of California! Not that you owe me any favors, but I think that might help me out a bit! ; )

    I have always enjoyed your special God given voice. You write from your heart and that is what sets you apart. Farmer’s Daughter ( live with Bonnie), Daddy Frank (with Bonnie), Sing me back home, Silver Wings I love them all. I play every day the video of you and Bonnie : “Merle Haggard & Bonnie Owens-Slowly But Surely” in the very early days touches my heart and makes me smile. Though it did not work for out for yall it still touches my heart to see her there on stage still performing with you as long as she could. Takes a special lady to do that.. Your music will endure for generations to come. Thanks to your sons for their talents too. Watched yall in Phoenix last yr. Please come back again. As a paying fan thank you for keeping the songs original as they were made famous, some performers don’t. God gave you a talent of the Century!!! Watch you play fiddle Farmers Daughter so awesome

    I just wanted to say that you have been given a great gift from God to be given another chance in life after your illnesses. I am praying that you use all the gifts God gives you for HIS glory. My childhood memories are filled with many of your songs. The Farmer’s Daughter is one of my personal favorites along with Mama’s Hungry Eyes. No one can sing those songs like you. I remember as a young Amish boy in Canada in 1970 working in the field and diesel fumes made me sleepy,so I sang all Merle’s songs I knew to stay awake.The Fugitive,Sing Me Back Home,Branded Man,etc.It was hot in the field,but often the song had so much meaning,I’d get goosebumps and a little chill would come.I was very blessed to hear God gets all the Glory for your success and good health.
