In My Next Life is my favorite Merle tune. I’ve played it about 20 times on my way to work this morning. Sadly, the radio stations did not play it when it came out in 1993. It is a Hag gem! The only place that I could find it was on his Down Every Road Anthology. If you are a Merle Haggard fan, look up In My Next Life. It is incredible. It resonates!

I have been a Merle Haggard fan since I was a little kid. My daddy would put those songs on the stereo a lot, now this was back in ’68 and it wasn’t till I was 10 years old, I went on a family trip to Texas and then in to Arkansas. This would be the last time I would ever see all 4 of my grand parents alive. My mommas daddy was a hobo back in the depression. The tape we had on the cassette player on that trip most of time was Same Train Different Time and I remember Mama Tried also being on another cassette. That was in 1973. Anyhow, the song Frankie and Johnny, with the best Telecaster guitar part ever played, was stuck in my head back then as well as Hobos Meditation.
I got sent to a foster home in Taft, California for messin with some things best left alone. Anyhow, part of livin in Taft in that home was listening to Merle Haggard and Buck Owens too. Those prison songs got stuck in my head. Go to jail one time and some of those songs take on a whole different meaning. I know about that part. Anyhow, Merle has been a huge influence on me musically and is part of why I play country music today. Thank you Merle Haggard for the music you make and the influence you had in my life.

    Thank you,
    Ray Lawrence Jr.

HE KEPT THAT FOR YEARS UNTIL OUR HOUSE BURNED DOWN IN THE JONES FIRE BACK IN 99 , JUST WANTED TO SAY THAT HE LOVED THAT TOY AND THANK YOU. MY AUNT LOIS USED TO DATE MARTY ROBINS BACK WHEN HE LIVED IN GLENDALE AZ. OF COURSE SHE REMEMBERS YOU AND SAYS HI.

I have tickets for the upcoming Tulsa concert–postponed from January–but to be honest I feel a little guilty after looking at this schedule! Geez. I’ve read both of Merles biographies, and I wish he could just retire and spend his time at home with his family! But then again, I’m so excited to see him again. I’m like the biggest Merle Haggard fan in the world, and I’ve only seen him in concert once before, in Tulsa 5 or 6 years ago. Been waiting for his concert schedule to coincide with my financial status. Just hope he realizes how much it means to me. I can’t afford to go to many concerts. But I WILL be there to see Merle this one time!!

Mr. Haggard, I just want to thank you for your songs. They make me smile, laugh, reflect, and even shed a tear from time to time. You are a true artist and the feeling and presence that you express through your songs is sincere and heartfelt. I have been a fan longer than I can remember, I used to listen to you on KRAK Country here in California’s beautiful Central Valley when I was a kid. It’s hard to pick a single song to call my favorite, but if I had to, I would say it is “My Favorite Memory.” Thanks again!

Merle, I saw you in Columbia, S.C. last night. It really brought back some memories and more than a few “happy” tears. I was in Viet Nam in 1968-69 and your music meant more to me than you will ever know. “Fightin Side of Me”, Okie from Muskogee”, “Hobo Bill”, and others kept me going during those years and even later when it seemed that noboby else really gave a hoot about us.
I really enjoyed the show and was delighted to know that The Hag call still cut the mustard!

I was in attendance of Merle’s concert in Columbia, SC on April 15, 2012. I can honestly say this was one if not the best I have ever attended. It is unbelievable of the hit songs of Merle’s. He performed over an hour and a half and only one song was not his. This is unheard of and unmatched! Congratulations to a living legend, Merle Haggard.

I am an ex paratrooper and have been a fan of Merle’s since the 60′s in 1967 0n my way back from Viet Nam in 67 , I met Merle at a studio next to RCA in Nashville and spent a while with him and a couple of other people while waiting on another artist that was listening to some of my songs. One of those songs was called The price of gasoline and i still have not recorded it. I saw Merle again at the River Dome in Louisiana at the River Dome a couple of years back when he was preforming with Willie and Ray Price. I left a CD of some of my songs at front with some of his people, I tried to see him but they would not let me get close. I am so glad he is improving and there will never be another as great as the Hag. Lester D.

Whether or not this story gets to you, I would like to pass it along. My father was a huge fan of yours. I knew your name and music before I learned to read or write. A few months ago, I got one of your cd’s to listen to at work. Little did I know, but it would be rebirth of sorts. We listen to it just about every day. Well, my dad passed away about a month ago. Back at my folks house, my mom brought out a few of your records. We listened a lot and cried more. We ended up playing ‘That’s the Way Love Goes’ for the service. One of my dad’s lifelong friends was a guy named Pete and he told me that in the 60′s he did promotions in the Duluth, MN area and, as the story goes, he took my dad to meet you as you arrived for a concert. I never knew that, and it is just amazing that 35 years after hearing your voice for the first time, I would hear that story. So I would like to say simply, thank you for your music. It’s been a source for many memories recently and has helped us grieve. And to cap it all off, I just realized my wife and I share the same wedding anniversary with you, Sept 11, 1993. Perhaps you feel that same as I do, that those damn terrorists really screwed up that big day of the year.

    Hi,
as a big fan from Germany – is there the slightest chance of seeing you live here in old Europe, maybe even just for a short trip to Berlin? One of our radio stations presents great artists on small stages – almost private concerts with just about 1,000 people in the audience. We’ve already seen many great artists and singer/songwriters here, but one is still missing …
I really hope to get a chance of seeing you live on stage.
    Best wishes.

There was Hank Sr., Lefty Frizzell, Ernest Tubb and Merle Haggard. Hag saw you at Maryland Hall this week and you knock it out of the park. Tried to get to your Bus to meet you but didn’t happen. Damm Body Guard should have whipped his ass. Said Hello to Norm and Don they will remember I was loud as hell. I’m 57 and have been listening to you since the beginnings I also collect Country Music video footage and its the largest in the state of Maryland. You are at the top of the list in my collection, still trying to get my hands on those old Buck Owens Shows you were on back in the day. Anyway Thank You Merle Haggard for all that great music and I will keep passing it on to other people who will get to discover you.
